Deja Kemp-Salliey (she/her)
Development Associate

Deja is VLJ's Development Associate who supports the organization's development, fundraising, and communications efforts.

In her position, Deja plays a pivotal role in the planning and organizing of VLJ’s major fundraising events. She spearheads VLJ's other fundraising campaigns. In addition to her work in development, Deja is a key actor in managing the organization’s grants initiatives and fostering relationships with the Board of Trustees.

At VLJ, Deja also lends her talent to communications efforts, from social media and graphic design, to writing press releases and grant reports. In addition to this, she also provides essential administrative support to VLJ's leadership team.

Prior to joining VLJ, Deja worked as the Development Assistant for the YMCA of Montclair, a nonprofit organization that strives to make a positive impact across Northern NJ communities, with a focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

Deja obtained a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a double minor in Political Science and Homeland Security from Pace University, graduating summa cum laude.

While completing her studies, Deja interned with multiple organizations including the Victim-Witness Advocacy department at Essex County Prosecutor's Office, Peace Boat US (a nonprofit NGO working to promote peace, human rights, and equitable and sustainable development), and a New York City Council election campaign. She also volunteered alongside New York Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (NYCAN), the New York City-based partners of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), to successfully advocate for the passing of two critical pieces of new nuclear disarmament legislation. All of these experiences speak to her passion and ongoing commitment to and for advocacy, human rights, and social justice.
