Legacy Giving
Leaving a legacy gift means that your support can change lives for years to come. It means that your generosity endures. It means that you play a role in sustaining the future of Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ), and it means the world to us. We know that you’re here because you believe, like us, in the noble notion of justice for all. With your help, we can chip away at the uneven playing field and the barriers to justice. Your legacy gift means that countless thousands of clients, now and in the future, will receive the legal help that they need to change their lives, moving past their legal issues and to a place of greater stability.
Thank you for considering a legacy gift to VLJ. There are many different ways that you can make an impact for our clients through your planned gift. VLJ is a trusted and award-winning nonprofit organization with a Gold Seal of Transparency from Candid. You can be sure that your donation is secure and your wishes will be carried out.
Leaving A Gift to VLJ in Your Will
You have several different options when considering to include VLJ in your will. You can leave a specific bequest, which is a set amount of dollars, or a specific asset. You can leave a percentage bequest, which is a certain percentage of your entire estate. You may also choose to leave a residual bequest, which states that the remainder of your estate goes to VLJ after all other bequests are executed. Please consult your attorney if you have any questions about the different types of bequests. If you choose to leave VLJ in your will, please let us know. We would love to recognize you as a member of our 2001 Society.
When drafting your will, the information you will need to include is our name, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ); our address, PO Box 32040 Newark, NJ 07102; and our Federal Tax ID number/EIN is 30-0528128.
Beneficiary Gifts
Another option is to include VLJ as the beneficiary on your life insurance policy, bank account, donor-advised fund, or retirement plan. You can adjust your beneficiary information anytime, or you can designate more than one beneficiary. Please consult your attorney and/or your financial planner if you have any questions about designating VLJ the beneficiary of your account(s). If you choose to designate VLJ as your beneficiary, please let us know. We would love to recognize you as a member of our 2001 Society.
IRA Rollover
At the age of 72, you are required to take a distribution on your IRA. This money is taxable per IRS regulations. If you’d like to avoid being taxed on your IRA distribution and simultaneously make a charitable contribution, you can designate VLJ to receive your rollover distribution, tax-free at up to $100,000.
The Internal Revenue Service has a webpage for “Retirement Plan and IRA Required Minimum Distributions FAQs” that may provide additional information (VLJ does not endorse this website nor do we guarantee its accuracy. Please consult your attorney and/or financial planner if you have questions about designating VLJ as a beneficiary of your IRA rollover).
