Newark, NJ – Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) proudly hosted its annual Arts & Eats for Justice Gala on October 8, 2024, in a celebration of the organization’s commitment to ensuring access to justice for people experiencing poverty across New Jersey. The event, held at The Park Savoy Estate, was a resounding success, raising $750,000 in support of VLJ’s mission and programs.

Conforti, an associate at Gibbons P.C. in the firm’s Business & Commercial Litigation Group and a dedicated volunteer with VLJ, has been honored with the 2024 Distinguished New Lawyer Award by the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA). This prestigious award recognizes the exceptional pro bono contributions and leadership of lawyers who have been in practice for 10 years or less.
New Mediation Program for Landlords and Tenants, Emergency Aid to Renters, to be Provided by Housing Initiatives of Princeton
Retired judge Philip Carchman helped [Housing Initiatives of Princeton] develop a mediation program run by volunteers that will bring landlords and tenants together to negotiate payment amounts and timelines. Volunteer Lawyers for Justice is working to help get lawyers to serve as advocates for tenants.
October 2020 Volunteer of the Month: Jason Camilo
Volunteer Lawyers for Justice is pleased to recognize Jason Scott Camilo as October’s Volunteer of the Month. Jason is the founder of the Law Offices of Jason Scott Camilo, LLC, a law practice focusing on immigration and nationality law. For Jason, pro bono work is part and parcel of his work as an attorney, simply explaining, “everyone deserves decent legal representation. As an attorney, doing pro bono work is one of the ways we can ‘stand up.’”

Among Yablonsky’s goals are to provide quality legal services to low-income communities, help those in need, and foster community relationships through pro bono collaborations with existing clients across the firm’s offices. Bressler has long supported such organizations such as Partners for Women & Justice, New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, and Volunteer Lawyers for Justice.

ABA Pro Bono Week
At VLJ, we celebrate pro bono work every day, but in honor of the American Bar Association’s Pro Bono Week (October 23rd to 29th), we have planned a wide variety of events for attorneys and clients. The goals of the celebration include recruiting more pro bono volunteers and increasing legal services to poor and vulnerable people, mobilizing community support for pro bono, fostering collaborative relationships, and recognizing the pro bono efforts of America’s lawyers.
