Volunteer Lawyers for Justice is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year! VLJ first opened its doors in 2001 with 30 volunteer attorneys willing to assist low-income residents of Essex County with family, consumer, housing, and family law issues. As of 2016, over a thousand attorneys have volunteered with VLJ to offer pro bono services to tens of thousands of clients statewide with a variety of civil legal matters. Last year alone, VLJ’s pro bono volunteers assisted 3,460 people and provided $1.8 million in free legal services. VLJ’s core areas of service are, advocating for veterans, aiding women, children, and families, working through financial crisis, and responding to disaster.
We owe our success over the past 15 years to all of our dedicated volunteers and the many individuals, businesses and foundations that have generously contributed to us. Thank you for your confidence in our ability to provide legal services and advocacy to and for New Jersey’s most vulnerable populations!
