Written by Jonathan Erway
Bressler, Amery & Ross announced that Evan Yablonsky of the Florham Park headquarters was named chair of the firm’s pro bono committee, in what the firm said was part of an ongoing commitment to succession planning, growth and development for younger members of the firm in joining leadership. Among Yablonsky’s goals are to provide quality legal services to low-income communities, help those in need, and foster community relationships through pro bono collaborations with existing clients across the firm’s offices. Bressler has long supported such organizations such as Partners for Women & Justice, New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, and Volunteer Lawyers for Justice. Yablonsky said in a statement: “I hope to grow and further develop Bressler’s pro bono efforts. We will be looking to strengthen our current pro bono relationships, and to forge new opportunities in conjunction with our clients’ interests. We will also continue to encourage our attorneys to perform pro bono work for those most in need within the local communities we serve.” Bressler managing partner Frank Cuccio pointed to “a greater need and demand for pro bono legal services in light of coronavirus.” He added, “Giving back is a firm value and a chosen responsibility.” Yablonsky joined the firm in June 2014 and was promoted to partner in 2019. His practice includes commercial litigation, insurance coverage and managed care litigation. He has served as lead counsel in more than 15 jury trials, the firm noted. Yablonsky previously was an assistant public defender in New Jersey. He earned his J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2008 and his B.A. from the University of Delaware in 2005.
McCarter’s Sherilyn Pastor Assumes Leadership of ACCC
Sherilyn Pastor—a partner, executive committee member and chair of the insurance recovery, litigation and counseling group at McCarter & English in Newark—became ninth president of the American College of Coverage Counsel (ACCC). She represents corporate policy holders. Established in 2012, ACCC’s 336 members all have spent a minimum of 15 years practicing insurance or extracontractual law, devoting at least 75% of their practice to the subspecialty. “One of my important goals for this year is to offer complementary training from the ACCC’s insurance experts,” said Pastor in a statement. “We can help judges, arbitrators and mediators with insurance law from a neutral perspective because we have both policyholder and insurance company defense perspectives.” Pastor also said she looks forward to expanding the ACCC’s complementary education programs for judges, arbitrators and mediators; increasing diversity among the membership; and, adjusting the ACCC’s offerings to adapt to the the coronavirus pandemic. Pastor is co-chair of the ABA Section of Litigation’s Trial Practice Committee. She has served on McCarter’s executive committee for several years and on its strategic planning committee. She is one of the first female practice group leaders at McCarter.
