On April 18, 2024, for Financial Institution Pro Bono Day, volunteers from Duane Morris LLP and TD Bank joined Volunteer Lawyers for Justice for an e-filing criminal record expungement clinic. Not only was it a great day to harness the power of pro bono, it was a great day for a client of VLJ’s ReLeSe (Reentry Legal Services) Program who successfully e-filed their expungement petition thanks to volunteers Jennifer Polovetsky and Lynne Evans from Duane Morris and Lisa DeLessio and Peter Pai from TD Bank.
While we may not always see the transformative impact pro bono has, the client had this to say:
“I sought VLJ services because I wanted an expungement for a crime I was responsible for 10 years ago, was rehabilitated, and have low income partly because of the crime. Prior to a community event where I discovered VLJ, I had challenges finding affordable legal services. I feel VLJ needs to continue its services and expand if possible because there are many people like me who are low income, taking the necessary steps for positive personal change, and in need of free or affordable legal aid to do so. VLJ has been a blessing for me.”
Because how we do justice matters.
