Always looking to roll out the red carpet as part of our "Welcome to VLJ!", VLJ is shining a spotlight on our four Summer 2022 interns. Today, we are excited to spotlight Yasmine Boto, a rising 3L at New York Law School.
Yasmine comes to VLJ after having interned at several public interest organizations in New Jersey. She is currently interning with and supporting VLJ’s ReLeSe and Veterans Legal Programs. In true VLJ fashion, Yasmine is gaining firsthand legal experience: Yasmine recently had the opportunity to work closely with VLJ Staff Attorney Erin Berman on a driver license restoration matter. A client had their driver license suspended due to several charges, but the charges leading to the suspension were dismissed which will make the restoration much easier.
Yasmine enjoys the diversity of VLJ’s programs, remarking “Every day is different and I am learning a lot of new things in various areas of law.” Yasmine was kind to say that her internship so far has been a great opportunity and an extremely rewarding experience.
When Yasmine was asked the question of “Why do you think pro bono work is important?”, she responded with “Everyone should have access to legal services regardless of their socioeconomic status. Pro bono work allows for those who are in need of these services to have equal access to life changing representation and that is why it is so important.” Hear, hear!
VLJ is very grateful to Yasmine for spending her summer with us helping to ensure access to justice for people experiencing poverty. Thank you, Yasmine!
